A Tropical smoothie hop sensation. This IPA combines the citrusy and tropical hop flavors of Citra & Mosaic hops with ripe mangos, subtly sweet lactose and a hint of vanilla.

It has been quite the day for The CANQuest (tm) as I have been running through (mostly) CANs L & R! I was supposed to have done a handoff with @tone77 today, but when I realized that I had a LOT of Kvass for him, we postponed until next week. In the meantime, this was one of his recent drop-offs.

From the CAN: "A Tropical smoothie hop sensation. This IPA combines the citrusy and tropical hop flavors of Citra & Mosaic hops with ripe mangos, subtly sweet lactose and a hint of vanilla."; "IBUs: 45".

I CANnot lie - I am NOT generally a fan of hazebro NEIPAs, but there are some that just seem appealing on their face. This was one of those. I CANnot tell you the precise reason, but the CANbination of Citra & Mosaic was calling my name. I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed up mightily, forcing me to back off as it formed two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with good retention, leaving a load of lacing in its wake. Color was a hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was heavy with mango, but with an enhanced sweetness that I could not identify on the nose. Mouthfeel was medium, but creamy on the tongue. I got vanilla almost immediately in terms of its taste! Mango & vanilla?!? It was like a smoothie or an ice cream cone when I was a lad. Weis Carnival brand used to make a mango ice cream (I think). I only really got Citra on the semi-dry, kinda bitter finish when a light grapefruit bitterness came through. This was one of those beers where I was outta my CANfort zone, but I still enjoyed it. YMMV.

Great foamy lace and head. The taste is not balanced. The sweetness of the lactose turns sour when the bitterness of hops takes over and finishes unpleasant. Other New England style beers I like better.

Poured from a 16 oz.can. Has a hazy, bright golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is strong of tropical fruits, guava stands out. Taste is of tropical fruits, citrus, some vanilla, moderate bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall it's no milkshake, but it's a solid beer.

A - Hazy but semi-transparent, gray-tinted orange body, minimal white head, quick to fade to a thin cap. Tiny bubble lacing in fine lines around the glass.

S - Pungent fruit in front, tropical and full, spun candy sugar and cream soda, a touch of funkiness beneath.

T - Follows that nose, full of fruit notes, guava and mango and passionfruit, a bit sweet but balanced with a lush, slightly tart finish.

M - Mild carbonation, silky and clean, tart finish.

O - Tremendous offering, quite delicious, with great feel. A real find.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 6/4/2019. Pours very hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/fairly tart/tangy mangoes, melon, fruit skin, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, light peppercorn/pine, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, mangoes, vanilla, lactose, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/fairly tart/tangy mangoes, melon, fruit skin, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, light peppercorn, pine, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy mangoes, melon, fruit skin, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, mangoes, vanilla, lactose, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and tart/tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy/acidic/tangy mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is an excellent Milkshake NEIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, mangoes, vanilla, lactose, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great Citra/Mosaic profile. Very juicy and fairly dank/earthy hops/mangoes; with a great vanilla, lactose, and wheat/oat/malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering. A little more bitter/drying than preferred, but well made style example.
