Death By Chocolate Milkshake Stout

16 ounce can, dating on it is smudged but I think the best before date was sometime in July 2023 since this was part of the late 2022 Milkshake Stout box release. Served in a Spiegelau stout glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with a couple inch or so tan head that stuck around for a while. Decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like dark chocolate, roasted malt, fudge, and brownies. Taste doesn't have as much kick as the aroma, but overall it does taste like a dark chocolate fudge brownie to me. Nice balance between the sweet and roasty flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this one, but wish I would have drank it fresher.

I got a can of this beer from a mixed Christmas holiday 12pck that I bought from my local meijer store. It poured an opaque dark with khaki head that is leaving some lace. The scent had bitter semi sweet cocoa powder notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bold semi sweet chocolate presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

The downfall of these Rochester Mills Milkshake Stouts has always been the mouthfeel; always super thin. And there is no exception here. But they often live up to their billing on the flavor, and again this one is no different. It’s like drinking liquid chocolate cake batter. If that’s what state of mind you’re in, this is your thing. I happen to be in that state of mind after a couple BBA stouts 57 minutes before we ring in 2023.

Pours a pitch black, cola consistency liquid with a two finger mocha head which reduces to a thin ring. Nose is milk chocolate, light coffee and subtle roasted grain. Taste follows suit, not providing any “wow” flavors. Feel is thin. I used to like these a lot more than I do now. 2.75/5
