Steinbier
A top fermented ale that is aged with porous Faroese rocks. The rocks are heated to 800°C and then placed in the wort, where they then caramelize the brew. This process, combined with the specially selected hops, creates a unique spiced flavour.
Okkara Rinkusteinur pairs best with dark meats, such as lamb, but it also combines wonderfully with cheese platters and other high-fat foods.

Copenhagen 7/9 2017. 33 cl bottle from Den Gamle Købmand. Very stony label to illustrate that this ale is using lavastone from the Faroe Island for caramelization.
Pours hazy amber with yellowish head. Settles as thin layer of patchy foam. Lacing on the side of the glass.
Aroma is sweet caramel, brown sugar and a light whiff of butter.
Light carbonation and slightly thick palate.
Flavor is strongly sweet followed by medium sourish bitterness.
A bit too sweet for my taste buds - but solid Amber Ale.

500 ml bottle, from Rusan, Torshavn. ABV is 5.8%. Brewed with Faroese volcanic rocks that are heated to 800 degrees C before they are placed in the wort. Reddish amber colour, pearly carbonation, low off-white head. Nice aroma of malts, caramel and some grassy hops.Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has some malts and caramel, without being sweet, but the body is too thin for its strength, and the hops are too moderate. Still a drinkable beer.

Pours a clear red/amber colour. Smells of citrus hops, sweet malts, rye, and a faint bit of sticky fruits. Tastes like sweet malts, slightly fruity at first, cereal malts, clean finish.

A: Slightly hazy amber color, while the mediumlarge off-white head quickly dissipates into decent lacings.
S: Flowery and fruity at first. Then the sweetend malt kicks in with very obvious caramelisation. Is that from the Lavastones, used in the production? Some yeast and stablenotes are noticable.
T: Sweetness from caramelisated malt and quite a lot of fruits, with rich acidic notes. The sweetness is well, very well, balanced by the frutiy acid. Bready and bitter, in short; they have manage to balance different flavours with/against one an other in a very nice way. There is yeast in the taste, but very suttle and balanced. The notes of stable are in no ways milder compared to the smell.
M: Very smooth and soft body, medium. The carbonation is eliminated. The aftertaste lures in the back for quite some time; mild but holds both bitternss as well as acidic notes - Nice.
O: A crazy beer, that hold so many differnt things. The Amber Ale - style is in no way wrong, but far from all that this beer is; you'll find references to Saison and Biere de Garde as well as Steinbier. This one, you must try - that's an order!
