Another excellent beer from Matuška. Huge waft of banana as I uncapped it - I've tried a great many wheat beers and have never smelt anything this potent. The colour is lighter than expected - an opaque, golden colour - I was anticipating a darker brew, but this is more akin to a standard unfiltered hefeweizen. Taste has everything you'd expect from a wheat beer: banana and bubblegum flavours dominate at first, but the aftertaste is nothing but clove. This doesn't share much in common with the style-definining Aventinus - personally I find this much more drinkable than Schneider's version - it has everything you want from a standard hefeweizen, but each of those glorious flavours is amplified and due to its higher abv, it simply has a lot more body than a normal hefeweizen. Carbonation is average - just right.

The bottle I had was only a week or so old and had been kept refrigerated - I really think freshness is everything with Matuška's unpasteurised beers and I'm glad I had a chance to try one so close to the source. I'd rank this highly among the Matuška beers I've tried - a close second after the incredible Golden Rocket.
