a dark brown/ruby, spicy attempt at a belgian that's not without its merits. the flavor profile is "stereotypical" of belgian beer (quotes indicate that this is an idea i got from someone else, but am applying here). there is, however, a nice use of natural cherry flavoring that is pleasantly prominent in the finish. thick in the mouth, with the same body as ROB's other big beers. not a texture normally associated with belgian beer, so it's admittedly distracting at first, but this is a good tasting beer. the 8% abv makes itself known on your constitution, but not in the mouth. style expectations be damned, this is an enjoyable and warming beer. i give credit for the attempt alone, and hope there is some left next time i visit.
