Beer is black with a moderately-sized tan head. Good retention.
The smell is very faint. I get some roasted malt, but not much else.
Roasted malt is the dominant flavour. Some anise, and a touch of chocolate. Moderately bitter. The body is too light, and the result is a flavour that seems a bit watery.
Light bodied for the style, moderately carbonated. Too thin for the style.
Overall, fine, but not a great stout.
