Extraomnes "Extraomnes Kerst Reserva 2023"
33 cl brown glass bottle; "Da consumarsi preferibilimente entro: 06 2028 Lotto: 156/23". Sampled on 21 November 2025
€7,00 @ Beers For Bunnies, Bologna, IT
Notes: Kerst means Christmas in Dutch.
Look: Mostly clear medium-dark orange with golden highlights beneath a short head of white that dissipates almost immediately.
Smell: Malty, fruity, and lightly spicy with notes of honey, apricot, dried fruits, and vanilla. A bit of alcohol is clear but at 12% ABV that's to be expected.
Taste: As the aroma suggests it's malty, fruity, and lightly spicy including both golden and dark raisins, plum, fig, and some fallen apple. There are no added spices but the yeast, and probably the alcohol as well, lend it a soft spiciness. There's not a lot of bitterness but the alcohol dries it in the finish and even leaves it a touch hot. Some dried apricot, honey, and other dark skinned fruit lingers.
Feel: Full bodied and 'smooth' with a soft, very fine-bubbled natural carbonation. The alcohol lends it some additional feel without actually being bristling or zesty.
Overall: It's hard to fault a beer that really has no reference style-wise unless it has faults. In this case the head retention and lacing are limited, and the alcohol is a bit hot BUT at 12% ABV that's to be expected.
