Pours a hazy amber, topped with a one finger off-white head. leaves webs of lacing.
Caraway, rye and sweet malt aroma.
Herbal, fruity, slightly medicinal taste, rye, fruit, pepper and caraway, flowers and oranges. Orange aftertaste.
On the light side of medium bodied.

A clean pale yellow beer. Has a nice bright white foamy head. There is an unbeliveable soft spicey aroma. It was as pleasureable as a stroll into a spice shop, a bit peppery with an orangey background. Every mouthful brings a different flavor delight with it, Pepper, grains, spices and orange peel. All of this flavor without overpowering your taste buds. Because every mouthful finished clean, smooth and refreshing.
I love this beer. If I could afford it. I might move to the Island just so I could get more.

Ever since taking a leap and trying my first rye beer (Hop Rod Rye), I'm always on the lookout for beers brewed with rye. When I saw this very different offering listed in the festival guide, I put it on the "must-try" list.

Funky orage in color...cloudy, with a thin layer of head. Aromas are dominated by the rye characteristics, with support lended by citrusy fruit. Flavor is not as over-the-top with rye, and is well-balanced by the other flavors: hoppy bitterness, doughy/yeasty sweetness, and a cornucopia of spices (it's brewed with carraway seeds, orange peel, and white pepper). Very different yet it comes off very well-balanced. Good mouthfeel and drinkability. A job well-done with a decidedly different beer.

Appearance – This one is muddy, pond scum orange in color with a head that looked terrific but that went down rather quickly.

Smell – The subtle, rye malt nose came out strongly here. The light Belgian spicing was pleasant and well-complimented the easy summertime fruits. I picked up some good watermelon notes from this bouquet, which were nice.

Taste – The tangy yeast was a bit tart and showed some of the spicing from the nose. The rye flavors were light and very well done. They did a good job here of melding the flavors together.

Mouthfeel – This medium-bodied ale is smooth sailing. There’s some fun carbonation, a light dryness, and, as I’ve already said, everything is mated well together.

Drinkability – This one went down very well. It’s a bit of a different take on the BSPA style but they pulled it off nicely.

Comments – This one had a lot of buzz on the floor of the 2004 Belgian Beer Fest. I took a break from note taking and had a couple of “tasting samples” of this fine beer. It is an excellent, cutting-edge offering from Offshore Ale and definitely worth a look.
