Nose of malt, bread, faint molasses, nuts, caramel. Taste sweet malt, touch oxidized, faint nuttiness, chocolate, & spice. Thin body.

A: Slightly cloudy, copper colored brew with maybe a 1/2 finger's worth of head with long retention.
S: Caramel malts, alcohol, deep earthy yeast. A very rich smelling beer.
T: Lots of caramel in the front. Sweet toffee, candied fruits. Almost zero hops to balance out the flavor at the front, though, so the beer fades away into tasting unfinished and watery.
M: Moderately light body, and a fair amount of carbonation, which lightens up the body a little further.
O: A disappointing beer. I was expecting more, but unfortunately the beer is just out of balance, and tastes a little like a homebrew at the bottling stage. Just lacking the flavor to hold it all together.

$ 4.29/16.9 oz (500 mL) bottle at Vintage Estates in Boardman, OH
Bottle dated 13/08/13 at 40 degrees into imperial pint glass
Aroma of malt
Head average (4 cm), off white, frothy, slowly diminishing to 3 mm layer
Lacing poor – rare very tiny island
Body medium brown, cloudy
Flavor begins with a sour maltiness then fades leaving only a light sweetness behind; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium, watery, soft carbonation
Not particularly good. The date may be either a bottled or best by date, but either way this is getting old. The date is printed with black ink overlapping a black label.

Figured it was low ABV but got it anyway. Paid 4.29 for the 16oz bottle.
A - Deep copper amber color with a slight haze. A 1/4 inch of head that settles slowly to a sticky lace ring.
S - Sweet caramel, toasted malts, some bready background. Malty goodness.
T - Balanced sweetness, Bready malts, some caramel and toasty flavors. Very smooth.
M - Light to medium body. Tasty.
Overall on par with German beer pricing and actually quite tasty. Won me over with the super cute pig label art!

A: The beer is clear dark reddish amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high light tan head that died down, leaving some large patches of bubbles on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark fruits and sweet malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell and has additional hints of brown bread and raisins along with a light amount of sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and seems to be fruitier and has more complexity in the taste compared to other beers in the style.

(Served in a stemmed strange)

A- This beer pours a dense hazy glowing caramel brown body with a lumpy deep beige head and a slow carbonation.
S- The sulfury, grainy aroma takes on a dough note that all blends together becoming more of a bread crust aroma as it opens. There is a stronger well water aroma in the finish.
T- The slightly bitter thick bread dough malt flavor has some roasted malt hints and a mineral water taste in the slightly tart finish. There is a bitter dandelion milk note that lingers.
M- The full mouthfeel has a crisp fizz and no real alcohol heat.
O- This beer has a stale malt character that is thick with a mineral well water flavor that dominates the malt. The bitterness in the aftertaste is a bit offensive and overpowering.

A fine, delicious dark lager. Deep mahogany red body with a thin, light tan head (that doesn't last long). Roasted malts with hints of coffee and cocoa. Excellent taste balance - roasted malts and nut-like flavors with a touch of bitterness to smooth things along. Clean, slightly sweet mouthfeel.
An excellent, tasty dark lager from Deutschland.

This beer is above average just a bit. The color is nice for a dunkel, yet the head and lacing leave desires.
Aroma is easy going and a bit light. Caramel and toasted malt, a bit grainy. Not much hop profile
Taste follows the nose. Caramel nudges but doesn't come all the way through. This seems like a light scotch ale. No hop profile backs this up. Lack of carbonation gives a feeling of drab.
While there's nothing bad about this beer, the lack of certain aspects pushes it to 'average' regions.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: dark, rich amber hue with a thick finger of frothy tan-ivory foam. Just a touch of haze to the body. I like the look.
Smell: malt aroma is quite caramelly in nature. Hops are definitely present and are of a noble variety. Not bad.
Taste: caramelly malt which is not over-sweet but is also a little *too* caramelly for the style, I think. Bitterness is low but noticeable, as is hop flavor. Not bad, but just a bit too much caramel for me.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a good level of carbonation. Not precisely creamy, but effervescent and satisfying.
Overall: I'm going to give this beer points for drinkability. A nice low ABV and a full flavor (if not one precisely to my taste) make this a nicely quaffable brew.

Poured around 55 degrees in to a 22oz pilsner glass. Hazy brown, with a lasting head. I didn't find it to be overly sweet as other reviewers. Good biscuity aroma. Light mouthfeel with only a light malty aftertaste. I would have like something a bit heavier, but I'd definitely buy it again if I was looking for a lighter dunkel.
