been a long long long time since i have had a beer from these guys, used to be borderline obsessed, and have always been impressed whenever i have encountered it anywhere. was stoked to find this at a small bottle shop in oregon wine country, just a single. a hoppy blonde type, neat beer because its both modern and original, but also sort of old worldy and recognizable, at least elements of it are. not perfectly clear but absolutely alive and glowing and inviting in the glass, a big tall belgian looking pure white head with great retention, fizzing vibrant blonde beer underneath, perhaps can conditioned. the nose is less neutral on the yeast than expected, its not a belgian blonde outright, but there is some low tone fruitiness to it, not overly estery, but hints of apple, pear, and green grape in the mix for sure even before the hops hit, european to me too, not quite saison, i am intrigued. grassy and lemony hops at the same time, not overdone but definitely present, cool mix of aromas happening, nice for summer. the flavor is a little more delicate than the nose, which goes with the effervescent and dry texture this brings. its snappy and crisp, almost lagered to me in feel. honeysuckle and french melon, citrus zest and white flowers, some definite hop bitterness starting early too, not in the hop forward range i still wouldnt say, but its uniquely big in this style, and the profile is so good with what the yeast contributes. white wine, green grass, and white tea as this warms. gone on the swallow in a rush of carbonation, real clean palate too for how much flavor this has. very good beer, as well refined as anticipated from this operation. i wish i had more regular access to their beers, always like what they do! i wasnt even sure they were still around before i saw this one...
