2L growler filled at Black Star Co-op Pub & Brewery a few months ago. It'd been in my fridge for months, so with tonight's venison steak, I had to open it. Wonderful pairing...

Aggressively poured into wine-line, triangular-shaped Lost Abbey stemware. Very dark brown with light brown head. Carbonation was still great. Good head retention.

Noticeable Brett nose, many red wine aromas atop a roasty base, some leather too.

Lots of dark fruit, but even more smoke and earth. Pretty oaky. Some spice, chocolate and vanilla too. With extra time in the growler, flavors were perfectly melded.

Very dry, very drinkable. I had no problem finishing 2/3 of the growler (split with someone else less into it).

This needs to be in the American Wild Ale category.

Poured into a sniffer.

Appearance: Jet black with no head and only a very thin off white ring around the side of the glass.

Aroma: Notes of vanilla and wood, with a very faint smokey aroma. I can't really make out any Brett qualities.

Taste: It basically taste like their regular smoked porter, with a tough of woodiness, but again, not much Brett characteristics.

Mouthfeel: Very little carbonation almost to the point of no carbonation. The body is thin to medium.

Overall: honestly I was excited to try this one for the sheer fact that it sounded interesting. I was a little disappointed. I couldn't really find any character that the Brett added, it could have been too young to show.
