Eftir að hafa þroskast í rúgviskítunnu í drykklanga stund býður Garún upp á svo ríka og piparslungna tóna af espressó og dökku súkkulaði að dauður maður hesti ríður. Garún! Garún!
Inspired by Icelandic folklore, Garún is aged in rye whisky barrels. Rich notes of espresso and chocolate linger, touched by a ghost of pepper — enough to wake the dead and send them riding.

Bottle purchased and drank at Skuli Craft Bar in Reykjavik, Iceland.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like dark chocolate, licorice, mint, burnt malt, smoke, and spicy rye.
This isn’t really an improvement on the original Garun Nr. 19, as the rye barrel just really elevates how licorice-forward the base is. The rye barrel adds a lot of mint and more licorice, with some smoky booziness. It’s an interesting flavor, but gets taxing after like 3 oz of this bottle.
This is medium bodied, quite bitter on the finish, and a bit boozy.
I’ve really enjoyed the small handful of other barrel aged stouts I’ve had from Borg, but this was a bit too bitter and burnt for my palate.
