Always down for good local beer, saw this was single hop Nelson Sauvin and loved Hill Farmstead Nelson so seemed like a good one to pick up a growler of.
A: aggressive pour gave a good inch of white white head which dissipated into a thin line floating on top. Nice caramel color, very clear. Expect good lacing and see nothing wrong with the appearance of this in my tulip glass.
S: a great combo of breadiness and citrus. Some tangerine, orange, maybe guava and other passionfruit. I've heard Nelson having gooseberry qualities but i've never had them so cant compare. Get some grape too, but a nice balance of citrus and maltiness with a slight edge to citrus. Doesnt smell bitter or give off any alcohol scent.
T: taste starts off malty and bready, gives right away to the tropical fruits that the smell gave off. Finish off with malt and bitterness. Still no alcohol presence.
M: very smooth medium bodied beer in the mouth. Slow dryness builds the more i drink and the more i let it sit. Seems just a bit undercarbonated, but that could be from being in the growler for 6 days.
O: damn good balanced IPA. A lot of tropical fruit and a lot of malty breadiness. My guess would be maris otter as a malt base. Really drinkable and just an overall really good beer. 4.0 overall based on the word outstanding right next to it. Its not HF Nelson, but a damn good use of the hop.
