Golden Rye Ale

This one was bottled on July 14 2010, 2 years ago. It tasted past it's prime so I don't know if this is gonna be the most accurate review. The appearance was nice with it being a golden reddish amber. The smell and taste come through musty and the alcohol is present. The rye is also there and it drinks like a belgian style almost. I don't know what to think about this one...

A - Three fingers of bubbly, porous white head caps a cloudy, dull orange body. Sticky lace follows.

S - Musty yeast, citrus, rye, orange peel.

T - Lemon and orange, yeast, brown bread, somewhat grainy.

M - Excessively high carbonation level, thin body.

O - Crisp and pleasant, yet disappointingly lightweight.

330ml twist-top bottle that unscrews with a violent pop. Vigorous carbonation causes an enormous frothy, but insubstantial head of off-white, topping a dark golden body. Light bodied, which means that the carbonation rips through it like nothing else. Not bad, overall.

Nose is mildly spicy, certainly with perceptible rye overtones. Slight whiff from the carbonation, but the bready, grainy rye note is at the fore. It's pretty mild otherwise, but pleasant enough, and I'm pleased the rye comes through.

Taste is similar, with a dry grainy character giving a dexterity and classiness to the palate, in the way of a good continental lager, for example. Slight twinge of savouriness on the back, with a mild spice and very faint acidity in the finish. Feel is smooth, but pummeled by the overt carbonation.

Drinkable but for the excessive carbonation, and it has a subtlety and sophistication to it. Although this beer isn't terribly exciting, it shows skill in its creation. It genuinely has enough interest and complexity to it that I'll keep my eye on Kaimai in the future.

Pours a murky golden hue which leaves a frothy two finger head and heaps of clingy lacing,the smell is barnyard funk,spicy rye and citrus hops,the mouthfeel is suprisingly just under medium bodied and creamy with tastes of light orange rind,citrus hops,spicy rye,a touch of candy and finished with a bittersweet mix of herbal spice and citrus and overall a very sessionable drop thats too easy to knock back cheers.

A - clear golden ale with a short fizzy head.
S - slight sour/rye smell. Has a bit of a wild yeasty smell behind the rye.
T - more sour than I expected. It has some fruity tones and a malty background for balance. Very little bitter happening here.
M - very crisply carbonated with a satisfying lasting sourness.
D - interesting but would not be a session beer.

Gusher. Impossible to pour. Massive head. Once it settles down it does look lovely though, lots of thick white lacing. Nose shows grassy, floral hops with hints of soft citrus. Underneath is sweet caramel. Quite nice. Flavours are very different, chalky, floury characters throughout. Some of the fruity and malty aromas transfer through well though. Carbonation is very high.

Review from notes. Tasted from bottle at Lush West Town. Pours clear light copper with an average white head that leaves nice lace. The nose is pleasantly fruity with tangy tropical fruits, slightly sour aromas, and a solid malt backbone. This beer is much more sour than expected with pineapple, citrus, and rye malt on the back. The body is fairly light with average carbonation and a long sour rye finish.

Very light spicy aroma with a light note of rye. I wish I got more rye character here.

Fairly clear, golden colour with no head.

Moderate bitterness with a nice maltiness and just a mild spicy rye character. This needs more rye to deserve the name.

Medium body and moderately high carbonation. Clean and refreshing.

A refreshing beer but lacking in the rye character that would define the beer.
