From tap at Sutter Buttes Brewing in Yuba City. Not too impressive for a DIPA. Certainly drinkable, but average to me. Overall finishes nicely, with good bitter bite, but again average.

Light orange color, 1/4" white head. Hops were sweetened citrus, like sugar put on a grapefruit or tangerine.

Hits the hop notes, has a thicker viscosity yet light pale malts at the same time, syrupy. Bitter and flavorful at the same time. Did very well at hiding the alcohol.

Pretty good stuff, would like to try again someday when not drinking a bunch of other hoppy beers around it.

This beer has a chance to be quite fantastic. It has a thickness to it that's very unique. Super hop forward. Non existing malt flavor. I hear it gets tweaked between brews? very interested to check it out next time I visit, hopefully they tweak it the right way. If your in the area, check it out. It will surprise you.

Nice presentation with a finger of head on a medium straw colored body.
The aroma is grapefruit and lemon; nailed the style.
The taste has medium to high bitterness, lemon with a balanced malt bill.
The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation and a medium body.
A pretty good DIPA.

A- Golden with orange hues. Clear with not much hop haze.

S- Floral, a nice mix of citrus and bready malts. Seems like it could use a bit more of dry hops for a DIPA.

T/M- Decent amount of bitterness and hop flavor backed up by some light caramel malts. Very balanced. I did detect a slight bit of astringency and band-aid like medicinal off flavor. Maybe chlorophenols? Maybe they need to treat there water? Not overly offensive in anyway, but it was noticeable. Drinkability was good.

O- Pretty nice stab at the style. I would have liked a little bit more aroma hops, maybe even a little more hop flavor as well. The water may need to be treated. Maybe throw in some campden? I still enjoyed this beer as it was very balanced and palatable. Make a few tweaks and you"ll have a fantastic DIPA.

This is a really good beer. It has a nice deep color and half inch head. You can pick up grapefruit, orange and other citrus notes in the nose. The taste is very bitter and hoppy and nearly perfect! This is why we love local breweries because in between Sierra Nevada, Russian River and Speakeasy lies a little place in Yuba City, Ca making great beers! Drink local!

Hving this on tap at the Source. Peter Hoey's infamous DIPA.

A - pours great. Pale malt sets the tone, with some amber malt showing through. The beer is clean. The head is bright white, and laces just perfect.

S - not as strong as I like my IPA's. I get some nice holiness out of it however. Floral notes balanced with that nice pine and sweet malt lingering slightly.

T - wow, very hoppy. The beginning is run with the malt dominating for a split second, then the hops come bursting in. Noticeable citrus and pine flavors. Just great.

M - creamy, smooth, perfect medium carbonation. Not much else to say. Imagine the perfect IPA mouthfeel, here it is.

O - lovely beer. Peter, well done. This is an IPA I will continue to have as I see it on tap. Well worth it.

Poured out a light orange beer. Hops evident in the nose, seemed to have a sweeter edge to it than other beers that day at the DIPA festival at the Bistro.

Good hoppy taste, a little restrained though. The sweetness was there again, couldn't differentiate the hop bill here, but seemed to have plenty of late addition hops marrying the bitterness to the mouthfeel. I guess I just wanted more of it, hid the alcohol in a decent way. A good start.

On tap at Pangaea, into an 8 oz goblet

A - Pours clear golden with 2 fingers of head. Dissipates slow and leaves relatively nice lacing.

S/T - The first thing that hits the nose are some sticky, resiny hops followed by some grapefruit. However, the beer is not overly hoppy as a bready and honey malt profile manage to leave a lingering taste as well. There is a really nice balance of hop bitterness to compliment the hop aroma. No notes of alcohol.

M - Hop dominated, but not a big bomb. Medium mouthfeel gives this beer a dangerously sessionable character. No hints of alcohol or fusel alcohols either. Finishes lightly dry, but not overly dry.

D - This is a great beer. I really like the fact that it is not a hop bomb blown out of proportion, there was malt backbone, did not finish overly dry like many IPAs, and the water profle did not appear altered. It is enjoyable and one could drink several pints.
