Poured from a boxed bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Black pour with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Great lacing.
S: Rum and sweets. Vanilla, oak, and roast.
T.F: Super boozy... very strong rum... sweet and roasty. Charred grains, oak, spice, and lactose. Dark chocolate, caramel, leather, and tobacco. Medium bodied... some roast bitterness for balance but on the sweet side. Medium bodied... smooth and creamy.
O: A very rum forward barrel-aged milk stout. Very enjoyable flavor... and a nice slow-drinking dessert beer. Glad I was able to snag a bottle.

This one has been sitting around for a bit, but finally got around to trying it tonight... Cap removed with a scary loud "pop" sound almost like a BB... Dark brown head... Modest retention... Flat black color... A limited bit of slightly sluggish carbonation... The aroma is off the charts... I smelled it as soon as I cracked it open... Literally smells like Tiramisu in a glass (how did they do that?)... Secondary notes of coffee and chocolate... A bit muddled on the palate... Lots of flavors competing for prominence... Some burnt coffee wins followed closely by vanilla and sugar... The barrel aging is very subtle... Medium to full bodied... Thick but sleek... A bit chewy... Certainly a sipper... There is a lot of good stuff going on here, but it bets bit cloying and muddled at times...

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into pint glass in November 2018. The label listed brew date Volume 2 in 2017. I drank it about 2 months after purchase.
Appearance: Very dark black with a 1 finger dark brown head. Head is thicker and creamier than many other stouts, and left a little lacing on the glass.
Smell: Balanced aroma of mollasses/maple syrup, roasted coffee, vanilla, toasted malts, caramel, chocolate, and cocoa as well, but overall the mollasses dominate the others. I do not get much hops aroma.
Taste: Strong flavors from the rum barrel. There is an interesting balance between the coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, and some bitterness from hops. The chocolate adds some sweetness, but there is a strong run flavor from the barrel, adding some complexity. There is a strong alcohol presence.
Mouth-feel: Strong alcohol, full bodies with a very smooth and creamy body.
This is a nice, complex stout, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. Although this is a strong-bodied stout, it is very smooth and enjoyable to drink.

Happy Birthday ACQ. Happy Mothers Day.
Bottle to tulip glass while cooking dinner.
LOOK: thick dark black; big foamy light brown head. Excellent retention
AROMA: fudge, rum, coffee, dark fruit.
TASTE: lots of rum up front and throughout. chocolate and coffee. a little unbalanced. blueberry, blackberry, fig, black cherry. Finish has a winey character with red grape and the dark fruits.
FEEL: Mostly full bodied.
Pretty tasty, though not perfectly smooth.

2017 vintage
A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense finger and a half of dense dark tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass
S: Smells of a lot of rum barrel notes with a hint of root beer
T: Taste is rum barrel forward with some molasses, coffee, vanilla, and more rum barrel. Slight roasted malt presence at time with a lot of sugary sweetness. Swallow is more rum barrel, hint of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt with some lingering rum notes
M: This beer is surprisingly thin feeling as it sits on the lower end of medium. Carbonation is adequate and about what should be there for the style of beer. This beer has a drying finish to round things off as well.
O: Overall too much rum barrel influence and not enough beer flavor. Not bad but I'd like for the base beer to provide more flavor than it does.
