Having CANpleted CANother brewery horizontal, now it is on to the next victim, er, brewery. Terrapin may have been sold to a corporation, but they have always been rather good to me. For insCANce, I received an erroneous E-mail from them & when I received an apology, I requested an embroidered cloth patch to salve the wound. They sent it forthwith! Onward.
From the CAN: "Ain't nobody hopped like me!"; "2016 Styrian Golding So Fresh & So Green, Green Beer Fresh Hop IPA"; "Terrapin's 'So Fresh and So Green, Green' is a beer that celebrates the hop! Made with freshly picked, whole leaf 'wet' hops, these off-the-vine beauties will encourage you to drink fresh, drink local and drink now."
I was a bit late in joining the party on this one, but the hiss as I Crack!ed open the vent on this 19.2-fl. oz. tallboy CAN suggested that all was well. Still, I beCAN a very slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed marvelously, forming two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention. Color was a tea-like Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a pleasant earthiness, like the smell as my neighbor tends her garden. It may not have been fresh, but it certainly smelled like it was! Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The taste had a woody quality as well as a pepperiness, adding up to an oak-barrel aged quality. Hmm. The malt was very dry, biscuity, toasty and knew to keep to the background since the hops were the star. I liked the way that they worked so well together. It made for a dry beer, but not gaspingly so. Finish remained dry, but it was SUCH a mellow drink! OMFG. I found myself on the nod at one point. Man, this was sneaky good! YMMV.

"Terrapin's 'So Fresh and So Green, Green' is a beer that celebrates the hop! Made with freshly picked, whole leaf 'wet' hops, these off-the-vine beauties will encourage you to drink fresh, drink local and drink now." Brewed in the style of an American IPA with fresh hops added. An annual release with rotating hop harvest selections each year, 2016 introduces Styrian Golding hops. Available in 19.2 oz. tallboy cans and on limited draft.
Poured from a 19.2 oz. can to a tulip glass.
(Appearance) Pours a gold-tinged off white head of a crisp, frothy consistency over a mildly hazy caramel amber body with lively, fine carbonation. Retention is above average and lacing is medium and patchy. 3.75
(Smell) The Styrian Golding hop generates a unique hop character of tropical fruit and light floral aromas, with undertones of lemon, pepper and herbaceous tea, along with a modest bitterness. Potency is moderate. 3.5
(Taste) The flavor largely follows the aroma, with a lingering wet palate of herbal tea, lemon and faint tropical fruit skins, with undertones of pepper. Bitterness is modest and the malt profile is simple, with soft crystal malt body and clean pale malt. 3.5
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly residual, smooth, medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium overall. Balance is nearly even bitter to sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) Always an easy buy to justify based on value and volume alone, Terrapin's annual wet hop release is a great way to explore many different styles of hops in unique ways that you may not get to experience otherwise. This year's use of Styrian Goldings didn't create much of a striking flavor to note, but as in many wet hop ales, there is an incredible range of flavor and hop subtleties you may not pick up on with a dry-hopped ale. I liked the subtle inclusion of tropical fruit skin character, which lent a small hint of complexity against a wet hop flavor that was largely herbaceous, lemony and tealike. They can't all be winners, and I'm looking forward to 2017's pick. It's worth a shot each year you can pick up a can!

Tall boy pour into a pint glass. Rustic Amber color with modest carbonation and small head. This is a continuation of the fresh hop beer started in (to best of my knowledge) 2013. Soft hop notes, and is easy and clean on the palate.; Medium feel with light bitters. Refreshing!
