2018 500ml bottle into a Firestone Walker taster’s snifter.
Thick brown brew, small cap.
Aroma is a winner here. Dark caramel, rum barrel.
Taste follows with tongue coating texture with piloncillo tinged dark malt and rum barrel. Boozy AF.
Feel is medium body with low carbonation.
Overall, a gift from the cave that stood up really well.

On draft at Jack Brown's in Harrisonburg. There you go Terrapin. You never know with them but they did a really good job on this one. Not world class but an excellent brew worth a try for sure.

500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 13.99. Bottled. Served in a Terrapin snifter. Enjoyed 2/8/19.
Pours fully opaque and chocolate brown with a thick, milky tan froth. The head fades to a large, misshapen central island, a fluffy but narrow halo and some scattered dots and dashes of lace.
Smells boozey, sweet and inviting like chocolate rum balls, vanilla-tinged wood and caramel.
A huge, wet woodsy barrel character is present throughout, complementing flavors of rich chocolate, sweet sugar cane, wet wood, rum, caramel, a little bready note and a hearty backbone of alcohol.
Full, chalky body with fairly light carbonation. That pervasive barrel note continues in the aftertaste, along with more chocolate and cooked caramel.
Terrapin’s fourth installment in their annual Ales From The Wood series (the third using Richland Rum barrels) continues the barrel-forward theme established in the prior releases. Richland Reserve III builds upon a solid imperial brown ale by adding sugar cane syrup then sequestering in rum barrels long enough to make that a dominant aspect. A delightful sipper, particularly if, like me, you enjoy strong barrel notes.
