Terrapin Beer Co. "Frenchy's Blues"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$2 @ Doc's World of Beer, Phila., PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a very hazy ruby colored body with orange highlights beneath a finger's width of pinkish foam. The aroma suggests acidity and berries. The taste delivers an authentic blueberry flavor with an appropriate level of acidity. It's made with real blueberries so that makes sense. I'm not finding any bitterness although I'm sure there's some there, it's just not needed as the acidity is enough to dry it out in the finish. In the mouth it's medium bodied with a gentle, fine bubbled carbonation that's enhanced by some mild acidic bite. The head held up surprisingly well for a sour beer, and it left a small amount of lacing as it went along, bit by bit, but that eventually faded. Still, that's a pretty good appearance for a sour beer. This is probably one of the best fruited sour beers that I've ever tasted.

Appearance: Pours a purplish-pinkish hue with a fizzly, quickly dissipating head.
Smell: Tart-scented blueberry jelly with a bit of sugared sweetness.
Taste: Well, it delivers on the nose: a tart-tasting blueberry jelly with a bit of sugared sweetness. Pop of acidity and soda-like carbonation on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium, soda-like carbonation.
Overall: Since the buyout, it's been a steady, relentless decline in the brewery's passion and experimentation. At least it wasn't a complete and total dud, confidently landing somewhere around the "tolerable" level.
