750 ml caged and corked bottle, no dating that I was able to find on it but I think this was first released a few months ago and maybe even longer than that. Served in a Great Lakes snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with almost an inch tan head that stayed around for a little while. There's a small amount of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, dark fruit, whiskey, oak, chocolate and some earthiness. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some molasses and a bit of coffee noticeable too. The whiskey character isn't strong, but it's definitely there. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit slick with lower carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, but I prefer the regular Rugged Expanse. Maybe I was hoping for a little stronger whiskey kick here. Still worth a try for sure! $21.99 a bottle.
