On-tap at the brewpub. Ordered a series of 6oz pint-shaped tasters served on a paddle.
A - Pours with a finger of off-white foam that settles to a thic collar and nearly complete thin cap. A few tiny dots of lace are left behind. The body is a mostly transparent dark brown color that reveals some caramel notes at the bottom of the glass.
S - The initial aroma is metallic and slightly astringent. As it warms up some light roast and nutty notes emerge, but it's quite understated.
T - The taste is a bit better, as the metallic quality is gone. However, it's largely a bland brown ale with some light brown sugar and nuts, and not much roasted malt at all.
M - Medium-light body, lower carbonation. A little bit watery, but not totally out-of-character for a lower ABV stout.
D - If this was called an English Brown Ale you could probably give it +1 across the board. As a stout, though, it's pretty terrible.
