Sorry but this following comment is in french :
Appearance : bière ambrée pur malt de fermentation basse, robe d'un single malt
Smell : arôme sucrés, caramélisé torréfié
Taste and mouthfeel : râpeuse en bouche, une âcreté de grains
Drinkability : bière de malt à whisky pas terrible

Tawny brown, slightly hazy with a bit of sediment. Pale tan head, moderate carbonation. Aroma is not that distinct but has enough presence, malty and slightly earthy. Taste is smooth, malty and buttery - little hop presence though as would be expected from the style. Finish is malty with notes of diacetyl.
Just a bit too much of the buttery aspect for its own good, otherwise ok.

This copper colored beer excited me at first because of the use of Whiskey Malts. But Upon further inspection, I could not smell any smokiness/whiskey aroma, nor taste any in the flavor. Instead it smelled sweet and hoppy. There was a non-descript maltiness that finishes sweet and is not well rounded. I was not impressed. Maybe it was old and that is the explanation to why there was no whiskey character.

I had never seen or heard of this one before so I took a chance, poured a nice lighter shade of brown color with nice medium/rocky head that leaves some lacing, smell is a little soapy with a smokey background.Taste is rich and a little smokey with a good roasted background, very appetizing.I am pleasantly suprised by this beer probably couldnt drink more than a few of these though.

Musty slight wet cardboard nose with a little soapy residue in the sinus. light amber color with a very carbonated filtered look. Nice white lasting head with a milky lace. Smooth medium lurking mouth. Malty, husky flavor with a slight alcohol finish to the taste and tongue. There is also a slight oak/smoke taste in the finish as well. Different and interesting with a good look.. but not very drinkable to have more than one or two.

After drinking a bottle of Grant's "Scottish Ale," I am now immersing myself in Mortimer, which is much truer to the Scottish style. Pours from the clear bottle a beautiful golden amber with a thick white head, which sticks all down the glass. Aroma has what I expected...a thick, pungent buttery maltiness. A sweet candy aroma is also present.
The body is rich and filling, with a creamy mouthfeel. Toasted malts blend with sweet malts and caramel, dough flavors; finishes with a nice bitterness. I don't want to sounds like Nero but there is definitely some licorice flavor as well. (I read his review first). A very enjoyable brew, recommended!
Thanks to Nero for the bottle!

Brewed w/ smoked whiskey malt & featuring a Scotsman on the U.S. label. It's bottled in clear glass although I get no skunkiness from this example. Nice appearance. The body is clear & deep copper in color - not unlike an unpolished brew kettle - topped by a frothy off-white head. The head holds well, drops to a good collar with some whispy surface foam, and leaves a little lace. The aroma is not bold, but offers some character upon closer inspection: gently malty with a light fruitiness, some alcohol, a very light touch of earthy hops, and a subtle background smokiness. The body is medium-full with a solid - but not effervescent - carbonation that gives a light bite at the front of the tongue, but is otherwise very creamy in the mouth. The flavor is rich & full, showing off a deeply caramel maltiness (though most likely coming from amber malt & caramelization in the kettle) & a light fruitiness as well as some solid bitterness. It then receeds with a dry, mouth coating & lingering lightly peaty malt note. There's clearly some alcohol here, and once warmed, when combined with the peat and malt in the finish, it brings out a light licorice note. The whiskey malt is limited to the extent that it's just noticeable & unintrusive. This beer is similar to the Fischer Adelscot, but not as sweet & less peaty. This is more of an 80 shilling Scottish ale that seems best served just below cellar temp. Unique, and well worth trying, although there are better Scottish ales available.
