Presentation: 750ml brown bomber bottles at the brewery.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black beer with a very nice creamy, foamy, lasting beige head.
Smell: Liquorice, molasses, faint anise, earth, chickory, wood and chocolate. Wonderfully aromatic and different.
Taste: Mouthfeel is very smooth. Body is medium and even. There's an up-front astringency to this beer that carries with it a burnt, dark, fruitiness. Definite chocolate characters enter the mix. A tad fruity, but mild in its sweetness with grape skin-like flavours, and the slightly herbal hop bitterness melds nicely with the dark malts. Finish is actually rather clean with only trace after flavours.
Notes: A bit too much on the dark malt side, but okay. For a bock I would have liked to see a bolder malt profile and sweetness. None of the typical bock characters are present. Reminds me of homebrew.
Thanks to DT from Deja Brew for the sample!
