Remarkable combination of chocolately stout with distinct red wine flavor. Aged in red wine barrels from California. So winey in the aroma, it's a whole other world of beer. But sudsy on the tongue with a tang like Syrah and an appealing bitterness.
Clear dark brown color with an amber edge, plus long-lasting beige foam. This is just slightly tart, but enough to sharpen up the big malt. Firm body but just slightly sweet with malt, and then the dark fruity red wine taste takes over. Dark roast with a bitter and blackened edge.
I hate to use the word "unique," but here it's justified. Really an intriguing and eminently sippable brew. Packaged in 16 oz cans available at the brewery tap.
