The Badlands flagship beer and picked as one of the Top 20 beers in Australia for 2022 (Weekend Australian 19/11/2022) - not just another Pale Ale this is true to its English roots and brewed with English Malt, Hops and Yeast. Golden in colour using hefty portions of the prized English malt Maris Otter with soft fruity flavours from the English hops and a rounded bitterness in the finish. Dangerously Drinkable!

Hand-pumped (cask) at the Royal Albert Hotel, Sydney. 570ml pint.
Undercarbonated. Pale malt. Biscuit malt. Faint floral and slightly herbal hop flavour...maybe Pride of Ringwood?
A drinkable uninspired attempt at the style and I don't know that the cask serving method does it any favours.

A: Lightish golden colour, nice stream of carbonation. Creamy head.
N: Not a lot, a slight beery flavour.
T: Hints of acid and metal, not very nice, could do with a lot more bittering hops.
M: Smooth and actually quite pleasant for this style of beer.
Overall, not great, but appearance and mouthfeel are OK.

Pours a pale golden colour with lots of carbonation. Head is thin with visible bubbling, retains a thin crown. Leaves some nice sticky trails of lace around. Pretty decent, but not really pale ale territory, well too bubbly anyway.
Smells is very fruity, a little oversweet. Lots of light milky caramel malt with rotting fruit aromas like banana and apple. Slight lemon zest but not a huge amount of tang; mostly a very saccharine fruit note. Not bad, but I've sure had better.
Taste is quite grainy with lots of bready notes, a hint of corn and just some barley grist - just a kernel-esque character. Hints of earthy bitterness with a fairly long finish. Slightly acerbic and medicinal, with a little bit of phenolic hang. Not bad, but a bit too bready for the most part, with noticeable yeast, and the hoppy bitterness doesn't have a lot of character, just a drawn-out herbal bitterness. Could use a trifle more hops - perhaps later hopping, to carry on that fruity note from the smell.
Fairly pleasantly full mouthfeel actually with not a great deal of sizzle from the carbonation. There is a little, but it's just lightly tingly. Pleasantly surprised by that, it's the best part of this beer.
I have had better beer, but this isn't unpleasant.

On tap at Paddy's Brewers Market Festival '10.
Pours a clear golden colour with minimal head - white with big bubbles and filmy texture. Lots of carbonation. Doesn't look particularly appealing, but it's suitable for the style, if at the lighter end.
Nose is light and a little grainy. A bit of honey and a bit of organic burlap sack. Not a lot of fresh hoppiness. Very little on it in general. Inoffensive, but very light.
Taste is also light, initially with a slight dose of PoR harshness, but this seems to be a phantasm - it disappears to a memory after a couple of sips. Elsewise clear with a slight citrus-rind bitterness. Clear on the back with a hint of refreshing bite. Mouthfeel crisp but empty.
It's drinkable, and quite refreshing, but it's also quite bland. Although it has some bite and bitterness to it, it feels surprisingly empty. I'd love to see a bigger dash of hops to it.
