Nice, deep ruby color, with the tiniest amount of foam and minimal lacing. The smell is strongly sweet with loads of malt and a noticeable smokiness from the charred oak. Similar flavors: sweet malt and oaky roast, but with a bit of a surprising tanginess and bitterness at the end. Smooth with minimal carbonation and a light feel. Not as much caramel, toffee, and vanilla as I would expect from an English-style barleywine. I think it would be good to age it a while longer and see if that smooths out the finish.
