On tap at the brewery.
Ummm. It's flesh-colored. Opaque murky tan-pink. But it smells divine. Sour dried apricots. It tastes like apricot too, but also berries and muddy-weird yeast. Not entirely recommended. I was really surprised to see this bills iteself as a strawberry saison. I get neither qualifier from the beer I'm drinking.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: murky golden hue with just the lightest hint of pink to it. Head poured a couple fingers of creamy white foam and stuck around for a damn long time. A good looking beer!

Smell: lightly sour funk with a pleasant-enough strawberry character. Nothing crazy but well-enough made.

Taste: very lightly funky with an earthy character brought by the strawberries which I think complements the saison characteristics. Subtle but enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a great big creaminess. Just a mouth-filling wonder. Woo!

Overall: this is a pretty good beer. I am not usually big on strawberry brews, but this one comes together quite well indeed.

Serving: Bottle
Appearance: Dusky deep amber with blush highlights. Murky and opaque Large fluffy white head and good retention.
Smell: Yeast, biscuits. floral and hint of citrus?
Taste: This is a very mild crisp summer saison. The strawberry is definitely fresh and present but it is more of a year round strawberry than the sweeter june bearing type.
mouthfeel: Aqueous, there and gone
Overall: I don't feel like I've had a beer at all. Pleasant and easy but nothing to write home about.

12 ounce bottle poured into a Highland Brewing Snifter glass

A - pours up cloudy with about the same color as pear juice, with a one and one half inch head, great retention, but strangely enough, not a whole lot of lacing.

S - I love the nose on this. My sense of smell has always been poor, but this one just has a nice floral aroma to it.

T - very crisp flavor profile that is a lot like your typical saison. What seems to make it different is the strawberry flavor which leads to a tartness not usually found in a saison.

M - good carbonation with a clean finish and not much of an aftertaste.

O - This is one easy to drink and will no doubt be a local favorite from a great up and coming brewer.

Enjoyed with a friend of mine visiting from out of state. Sampled on July 4, 2014.

It pours a slightly cloudy yellow color with a modest head.

The aroma is almost overpowered by yeast. Then there were the biscuit malts and the strawberries.

Medium body mouthfeel.

The strawberry infusion turned this every day Saison/Farmhouse into a tart, although not sour, drinking experience.

Pale yellow pour with a slight haze. The aroma has a nice yeasty biscuit feel to it. And strawberry. The strawberries seem to add a kind of tart aftertaste with the toasted malt character. Not all that bad.

Poured into a pint glass.
Appearance is a cloudy yellow, quite a bit of head and carbonation.
Smells like a typical saison; spicy with a hint of strawberry. Nice.
Tastes like a standard saison with added strawberry tartness. Could use a bit more strawberry, but it isn't offensive at all. Standard saison-ness here, clove and banana.

Very refreshing.

Bottled 3/26/14, poured into a tulip glass

A- pours a hazy golden-yellow color with a massive foamy and bubbly white head that retains long after the pour, with carbonation bubbles shooting to the top of the glass

S- classic saison aroma with notes of phenolic Belgian yeast with some musty and earthy aromas, dried hay. Very subtle underlying fruity sweetness of strawberry and coriander

T- crisp wheat, hay and coriander up front lead to big musty and earthy flavors with some phenolic notes, slight fruity sweetness gives flavors of orange peel and strawberry. The finish is dry, with with more must and hay on the linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a big foamy mouthfeel and a smooth and crisp finish, high drinkability

O- a fine summer beer that packs in the classic flavors of a saison, yet stays incredibly drinkable. Very good!

12 ounce bottle - Hop City in Birmingham, Alabama.

Born On: 03/28/2014

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazed, yellowish tinged body with a foamy, sudsy, white head.

Smell: Bready malts, hint of pils graininess, and a small, sweetish element to it. A bit of dried herb. Touches of orange, coriander, and the strawberry.

Taste: A light, lightly bready pale maltiness, small hint of sugar cookie. Juicy, citrusy orange, some earthy coriander. Spiciness is boosted by the healthy carbonation. Faint herbal hops, bitterness. Restrained strawberry fruitiness hinting a bit of tartness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.

Overall: While not your everyday saison, it is a pleasant, refreshing strawberry infused beer.

A-Pours a soft pink color that is impermeable. Towering white, creamy head with poor retention and a lot of lacing.

S-Funky yeast, cheese, spice, and nothing more. I'm getting no strawberry at all.

T-That funky yeast flavor overpowers all. An unpleasant, but not too bad, sour taste lingers on the palate with the faintest hint of strawberry.

MF-Crisp, medium-bodied with a dry finish.

O-Not a good fruit based saison. The Belgian yeast and cheese flavor overpowers everything and the strawberry only contributes to the color. Too one-dimensional. This could be a good brew.

Although labeled a “Strawberry Saison,” this beer did not have the aroma, taste, or aftertaste of some of the other fruit beers I have had. With Abita’s Strawberry Harvest Lager setting the bar, this beer falls even shorter than other attempts (such as Avondale’s Kolsch).

Poured from a bomber into a Newport Storm snifter.

A - Translucent gold with a lot of creamy head and lots of bubbles rising to the top.

S - Sweet and fruity with a touch of funkiness. Pretty much what you'd expect from a fruit saison.

T - Very nice, though the saison characteristics barely come through. Strawberry, wine grapes, and apples all come through nicely with this one. There's just a hint of funkiness and spiciness in the aftertaste. Tastes more like a fruity wit beer.

M - Light bodied, smooth, and lots of carbonation. Very easy drinking.

This was quite a surprise and makes me want to try more from Blue Pants Brewery. Not much in terms of saison characteristics, but I could see myself drinking this a lot in the summer. I bet it pairs great with a light meal. Nice, light drinking from this saison.

Tasted On: 09-16-2012
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 22 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Balloon glass
Purchased: Single from Liquor Express, Huntsville AL

A: Big white head of 3+ fingers high, showing excellent lacing and retention. Beer is a clear, dark orange color.

S: Aromas are sweet and fruity and gives hints of strawberries. I also get a bit of Belgian funkiness in the nose.

T: The taste definitely features strawberry fruit and has a tart quality to it. Other flavors include citrus, spices, and some grape, wine-like characteristics.

M: Highly carbonated, with a fruity aftertaste of strawberries. The finish is a nice marriage of sweetness, tartness and dryness, touching on each in turn.

O: An enjoyable summer beer from Blue Pants.

m - crisp and bubbly, medium thickness.
o - really solid strawberry saison that i thoroughly enjoyed.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a weizen glass. Also had previously on tap at Tortora's in Hampton Cove, AL, and Mellow Mushroom in southeast Huntsville, AL.

A: cloudy pinkish-golden color. one-finger pure white head that dissipated totally away. Minimal lacing.

S: Combination of strawberries, cardamom, wheat - very pleasant.

T: Excellent. Flavors of strawberries, cardamom, honey; hops are there but not overly strong or bitter. Very well balanced and refreshing.

M: Good even-keeled body. Carbonation is good and right for the beer.

O: I wouldn't really call it a saison but i would call it a great summer beer, and glad to see it in the large bottles now. Seek it out on a regular basis.

growler filled at Corks & Tops, Tuscaloosa, AL

Pours an orange-tinted golden yellow color. One finger of eggshell colored head on the pour, but the bubbles are quite loose. Like dishsoap on your hands.

The aroma is sort of unexpected, because it smells like a hybrid between witbier and saison, with some additional strawberry puree complicating things even further. The strongest aromas are of pilsner malt and strawberry puree. It's an interesting strawberry aroma: it smells like a blend of tart strawberry fruit and synthetic, candified strawberry gum. There's some plastic phenolic character, which makes me think that this beer indeed used a saison yeast strain. But there's also some witbier touches: coriander and orange peel. The beer smells a bit confused.

Slip Rose, at least on-tap, doesn't much taste like a Saison. It tastes like a witbier with strawberry flavor. All of the touches of witbier are here (except for wheat): coriander, orange peel; that light fruit-and-spice combo. I don't really taste the yeast characteristics that saisons have. So I have to score this beer down for being off-style. But it does taste pretty nice. The strawberry flavor is tart and refreshing. The finish is not that pleasant, however, with an odd bitterness turning the tartness into something acerbic.

The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and slightly silky. I would like to have felt the carbonation some more. Overall, this is not a good Saison. I do like this beer for its refreshing qualities, though I think that Blue Pants should think about making Slip Rose a dedicated Witbier when next they brew it.
