oh its been way too long since ive had anything from jester king, one of my absolute favorites anywhere. these guys slay, and its cool to see them canning some beers, i think a lot of breweries are finally taking this step, jolly pumpkin and anchorage also come to mind as wild ale makers now canning. anyway, this is part of that other half initiative, not sure if they are all the same recipe or not, but this is real tasty, somewhat subtle, very drinkable, and even though this is not at all the kind of thing we know and love jester king for, its very solid ipa. hazy sure, but bright in the glass and not dense looking at all, a pale golden to brassy yellow shiny tone with a high white head several inches, and lasting too. aroma and flavor are similar, and while this isnt malty in the traditional sense, it seems to have quite a lot of grain to it, earthy and very pale, nothing toasted or sweet about it, but its a pretty sturdy base, slightly starchy, makes this feel fluffy, even creamy in texture, enriching without any sugar element, which plays well with these hops of course. the hops have some herbal and tea-like notes, plenty of generic citrus too, and this seems good and fresh, but the hops kind of fail to leap out of the glass, especially for what seems like a big dry hopping, and this ends up a little bit samey to me in the hazy style, just some faint green bite late. objectively well done as it is. light lemongrass, mango, and sweet orange, good grain balance, mostly clean fermentation, certainly none of the usual jester king character there, and great carbonation and finishing dryness. an expertly crafted beer here, especially for a style well outside what i would consider their comfort zone, quite a bit more other half than jester king here, but a fun one to drink on. thank to my boy in texas for the shipment this week!
