This is an excellent example of the style. Not hoppy, a very good malt profile without excess sweetness.

On tap at the brewpub in San Diego.
Poured clear dark red-brown, nearly opaque, with a good, semi-durable head that leaves a few spots of sticky lacing on the glass.
Aroma: sweet toffee over an appealing medium-roasted malt base.
Flavor: robust flavor for style. Low in hops for contemporary American Browns. Slightly sweet balance.
FeeL: smooth but a bit too light; low-medium carbonation.
O: easily the best of the 3 Beer Co. beers I've tried so far.

Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and some subdued hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a toast-like flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but nothing too exciting.
