Bottle share. What were they thinking? This did not work out well at all. No remains of the scotch ale were evident, it was fruity, sweet and cloying. It may have seemed like a great idea at the time.

Poured into a MacAndrew's thistle glass. Pours dark red-orange amber with a thin light khaki head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma is caramel malt and buttery toffee with a hint of vanilla. Flavor is bready malt, very buttery toffee, oaky vanilla; finishes with lingering buttery vanilla, mild peat smoke, light hops and light astringency. Medium bodied with light carbonation. An odd take on a Scotch ale, with more diacetyl than expected from the style. There is enough flavor here to balance the buttery component, but it is the dominant flavor. Nice light peat smoke and good vanilla flavor from the oak. Flavors a bit subdued for the ABV, but it does seem well covered with little alcohol flavor. Interesting, but idiosyncratic. I'd probably go for an inexpensive traditional Scotch ale over this the next tme.
