Got a half-growler of this at Oliver's in Albany today (2-10-12). Price was good - $10.99 per growler.
A: An aggressive pour results in a body that appears black until backlit - then it's brown with mahogany hues on the edges. A 1-finger light-brown head settles on top.
S: Big nose of char and burnt coffee. Maybe even burnt tobacco. Interesting - a tad bit too much in the burnt direction, IMO, but I've gotta give them credit for the huge burntness (if that's a word) of this nose; I don't believe I've ever had a beer with a nose anywhere near this burnt/charred.
T: It's hard to get past the burnt nose and objectively identify the taste(s), but here goes: tobacco, coffee, roasted coffee and roasted barley. Charcoal. Finishes surprisingly clean though, with a touch of malt sweetness.
M: Nice and creamy; smooth. Call it medium in heft, but it drinks lighter, which, IMO, is consistent with the style.
O: Props to Crossroads for brewing a beer that's like none I've ever had (this after 850+ reviews here on BA.com). This beer brings to mind winter fires in the fireplace.

Porter brewing with coffee and oats. Pours a deep tan into my mug, nice looking silky off white head caps this one. Good retention to boot.
Scent is mostly clean, slight hint of coffee.
Taste is quiet enjoyable with expresso like roastiness, slightly sweet malt and mild bitterness.
Mouth is light and creamy.
Very enjoyable.
