This was the second of a slew of beers that I picked up at the Marketplace Foods in Rice Lake, Wisconsin when I was up there a few months back. Loved the label and the description as this did turn out to be a nice take on a Coffee Porter that was easy to enjoy and worthy of being sipped during breakfast - although I'd prefer to have this later on in the day!
No surprised that this was quite a dark shade of brown, as if it was freshly brewed, with a ton of bubbly mocha head that slowly settled down nice and evenly. Only a few spots of suds remained on my glass as I was hoping for a bit more given how nicely this initially poured. Loads of coffee, cacao nibs, and dark bread on the nose as hints of creamer and espresso came through on the palate once this fully warmed up. A bit of pumpernickel and lactose rounded this out as this was nicely complex and balanced with a low carbonation and a slightly cloying aftertaste that left me wanting more.
The amount of alcohol in this was spot-on as all this was missing was a canning date on the label or can itself. Nice job all-around here as this was a nice introduction to a style that needs a category of it's own on this site!
