About a year aged, pours dark with a mocha head that fades to a ring. Aroma is rich malty roast with a slight sour note that's not so appealing. Flavor is all sorts of better though, with lots of dark roasted malts and low bitterness. Super smooth mouthfeel makes this dangerously drinkable. Excellent.

Fortunate to be able to taste this special limited edition stout from Berts Better Beers. The pour kicked up a nice head with lacing that stuck to the glass forever. Beautiful cocoa smell. The favors are very complex and dry. An outstanding beer that goes well with a Beethoven Symphony.

From the can with a smudged Feb 2017 date. Sampled November 9, 2017. Served about 45 degrees.

The pour is nearly jet black, opaque, and underneath a modest, delicate mocha head.

Big roasted sweet malt aroma with a touch of vanilla or perhaps some coffee notes. The booze has faded a biut in eight months but I still pick up a kind of grainy alcohol presence.

Full, creamy body.

A sipper for sure. Nice roasted malt sweetness to begin but a slight astringent bitterness to finish. Warming. All in all it's still a very nice beer despite the odd finish.

Many thanks to SawDog505 for this beer.

A - Opaque black pour, thick off-white colored lacing ring.

S - A little 'bit buttery, oak, and bourbon.

T - Chocolate, bourbon, oak, caramel, toffee, vanilla.

M - Big medium body, very light on the alcohol effervescence.

O - This is a really good beer. Recommended!

Date is smudged, it's a February 2017 date though.

A: Pours black with a tall, frothy chocolate milk colored head. Top-notch head retention and quite a bit of lacing left behind.

S: Big notes of chocolate and a bit of char, primarily. Slightly sweet.

T: Quite nice. Bittersweet cocoa and burnt bread up front. Just a hint of smoke in the middle. Cocoa turns pure bitter with a touch of espresso flavor in the finish. Dry, charry, cocoa aftertaste lingers between sips.

M: Heavy with a surprisingly dry feel, especially in the finish. Good attenuation I assume.

O: Quality imperial stout. No flavor additions, no barrel aging, just a good hearty imperial stout. Quite dry for a stout, not a sweet bomb like so many of them are. A refreshing change, if I admit.

Poured into a 16 oz snifter canned on 2/07/17. Pours a very attractive slick black with a two plus finger light brown head that leaves behind plenty of attractive lace.

Smell is biscuity grains, vanilla, cocoa, dry coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, and a hint of alcohol.

Taste follows biscuit, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, tobacco, leather, and some warming alcohol.

Mouthfeel is a little bigger than medium, creamy with moderate carbonation, a tad dry, and it drinks fairly easy at 10.5% ABV.

Overall this actually a pretty complex stout, that has a lot going, not sure what some age will do, but I am going find out.

Pours a light brown, three-finger head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Black color, no highlights. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Burnt chocolate nose, flavor is baked-burnt chocolate, some malty sweetness, light bitter finish. High ABV is hidden. Not cheap at $14.50 for a 22oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Bottle from Craft Beer Cellar Nashua.
Solid black color with a decent sized but short lived tan head. Big roasty maltiness with hints of chocolate, molasses, and caramel. Big earthy citrus hop aroma was a bit unexpected but pleasant for this hophead. Bitter roast with a dark sugary burnt molasses thing dominate. Light chocolate and caramel again but the hops rush in and obliterate those with and earthy pithy citrus flavor that actually gets a bit harsh at times. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and an oily silky mouthfeel. I liked the first few sips a lot, but as I let her warm and open up it became obvious that this needs some balance. There's a huge hoppiness competing with a big burnt sugary roastiness and it just seems to clash a bit. Some time would probably make this a fantastic brew!

A fascinating Imperial stout. The flavour profile is a bit harsh, with oyster, scorched chocolate, and roasted malt. I'm cautious to see how it ages.

Pours a really nice black color, surprisingly solid head retention, and moderate lacing. Smells of slight chocolate, strong coffee, and some burnt ash. Tastes of roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate and ash. Solid medium to full bodied and is a sipper. Overall I found this pretty interesting to try, though nowhere near one of my favorites. Well done nonetheless.
