A 500ml bottle with a BB of June 2015. Picked up just the other day from the York Beer & Wine shop. Described as a hoppy blonde beer and created in celebration of the forthcoming Tour....
Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear golden hue with light carbonation. Yields a smallish head of white foam that dissipates rapidly. Aroma of diacetyl, light malt, mild fruity hops, faint melon and a twinge of stewed leaves. No great shakes.
Tastes of light malt with a hoppy character and a crisp, bitter finish. Notes of light malt, faint grain, subtle grape, a hint of melon, grass, ale yeast, diacetyl and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, followed by a leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and a rather insubstantial body. Lightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of stewed leaves, subtle fruity hops, buttery diacetyl and faint malt.
Meh - a lacklustre effort. Doesn't look brilliant, while the aroma and flavour are plagued by off-notes that detract from the experience. Body a shade too thin. It's thirst-quenching and I want to like it but the flaws need smoothing out. Probably better on cask (and would benefit from bottle conditioning). No need to hunt it down.
