A 500ml bottle with a BB of June 2013. Acquired a while back from the York Wine & Beer shop. The label mentions that it is hopped with First Gold and Goldings.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. An orange-amber hue with faint haze and good carbonation. Yields a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Aroma of light malt with hints of fruity ale yeast, earthiness, grain, mild grass and stewed hops.
Tastes of light, grainy malt with a dry finish. Notes of mild caramel, grain, fruity ale yeast, earthiness, grass and stewed hops. Possesses a faintly harsh quality in the background, and a restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Slightly astringent, with an aftertaste of harsh stewed leaves and faint malt.
Not bad, though nothing special. Looks OK, while the aroma/flavour are dominated by mild yeast esters, malt and grassy hops. Body is alright. Nothing about this ale really stands out, though it's well-balanced and goes down easily enough. Worth sampling if you come across it.
