a weird one from funkwerks here, golden sour (not sure if its fully wild, i would guess not, but its the most appropriate style listing still i think), brewed with cucumber, mint, and lime. clear golden in the glass with a short and short lived white head. not super lively, but pretty still. aroma is interesting, i smell the fresh wet vegetable cucumber, peel and all, and i definitely get the lime, which seems less natural in the smell than either the mint or the cucumber. sourness is clean, lactic, and moderate. the flavor is really weird too, i think there is too much lime for one, but i like how robust the mint and the cucumber are, both really organic, almost tea-like in here, highly botanical and fresh, and it does have a cocktail vibe. the sourness picks up a lot of the lime, and takes a little far, this now seems overly flavored to me, but its clean in the finish and a little sharp, mint comes back at the end too. the cucumber is really genuine, and i like that a lot, it makes this very refreshing for what it is. it really could use a bit more carbonation though, i want these flavors to pop, and they sag a little with the less than fully active feel, light as it is. interesting beer here, certainly summery, and i think a nice use of the mint and the cucumber. if we could scale back the lime and the acidity, and ramp up the bubbles, we would have one heck of a nice beer. still worth a try, wildly interesting, and real well done for something so strange...
