Poured from a growler purchased at Premium Draught in Houston.
A: Pours a hazed orange color. At first a two finer white head forms with good retention. Light lace is left behind.
S: A vinegary aroma up front. White pepper, light esters, fruity. Some vanilla and wood aromas.
T: Like the nose, I get a vinegary flavor up front. White pepper, esters, fruity apricot with a lingering acidic/tart bite. Some light wood and vanilla flavors but overall restrained.
M/O: A medium to full body. Well carbonated. Though there is a soapiness, and not as snappy/crisp as I would like for a Saison. Enjoyable to drink, I won't have any problems finishing the growler this afternoon.
An interesting take on the style, with vinegary acidic fruitiness as the main component. Not bad in any way, but I think I enjoy some of Funkwerks other Saisons more. Hard to put my finger on it, but think I enjoy the distinct yeast character without the sourness and light wood flavors more. If this sounds interesting though, I would not hesitate to recommend as others tastes might differ than mine.
