Sampled on-tap at Hereford & Hops, this English-style Barleywine pours a nice orange amber with a frothy white head with good retention and a bit of thin but uniform walls of lace sticking to the glass.
The aroma is mild with some decent floral hops and citrus: orange mostly. Some dim, tart apple and lots of caramel malt. Not very well pronounced but reasonably good I suppose.
Bright with dim but sweet tart fruit. The abv isn't super high for the style but the booze is definitly not hidden well. Dull malt backbone with some black cherry and decent hops. A bit of caramel and a slight bready character. Dim and not as boisterous as I like a barleywine to be; but I suppose this is an inherently milder English brew so its understandable.
Slick and mostly clean with lots of warmth. Not terribly complex but respectable. Most of H&H's brews (including this one) are solid and in tune with their respective styles but are somewhat dim and many of them leave something to be desired in the aroma and complexity departments. But they are easy to enjoy and high quality. One can certainly enjoy them for what they are.
