1/2 gallon growler sample from the brewpub.
This beer pours a clear deep copper tone. A nice creamy beige head sits on top and has a little stick-around to it. Laces very nicely. Great appearance. Smell is of cocoa and java. Stout like to me. Spiciness is present as well in the background. The taste is pleasing. Spicy rye notes are very evident. Some of the stout qualities are also present to a smaller degree than on the nose. Chocolate and coffee tones are present. A bit of a hop bitterness accentuates as well. Nice medium-full body. Silky mouthfeel. Highly drinkable. Very nice beverage.

According to the menu, this is a brown German-style lager using rye. Unfortunately, it was served in a frosted pint glass making it difficult to see its true color. Still it appeared reddish brown with a nice creamy head that lingers and laces well. As far as the aroma and taste, again, the frosted glass and chilled serving temps made it difficult to discern much hop aroma, a malty sweetness prevails both in the nose and the taste. It is a refreshing beer, that seems to keep with this brewpub's philosophy of not veering too far from the mainstream to scare away macro drinkers.
