Having this beer on-tap at the brewery, as my friend Jon Passow and I stopped for lunch before going hiking on Mt. Shasta. Served in a standard pint glass, this beer is a clear, deep, dark red amber color with a slightly tan/off-white head that’s about an inch thick when first drawn and served. Head settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass along with some bits of surface foam spots. Not much lacing at all though unfortunately. Aromas of some bready, toasted caramel malt sweetness and a bit of floral hops. The taste is pretty much exactly same, with bready, toasted malts with a nice presence of caramel sweetness that’s followed by a mild floral hop bitterness to add the necessary amount of balance. Not a very complex flavor profile, but spot on for the style. Has a fairly crisp, also smooth and slightly frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish with a slightly dry finish and aftertaste. A good beer all around here.
