Here you go hopheads – we brewed this one just for you!! 55+ pounds of hops, lots of honey and a little citrus just for some added kick. Golden in color with a nice rounded malt middle, ending with a huge punch of hop bitterness.

L: Poured from a can to a tulip glass. Had a shimmering amber color and a clear consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Fair lacing.

S: A solid aroma of hops, malt, citrus, and some honey.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of malt, lots of hops, citrus (orange, in particular), honey (mostly in the finish), a tinge of caramel, some pine notes, and some mild spices (pepper). A nicely done flavor that gets better as it goes along. The booze gives you a good warming sensation, which plays well with the fruit and hops.

F: An average amount of carbonation with a warm, smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: In general, this is a well made DIPA, though it has some minor flaws. Still, very tasty and drinkable.

Wild Wolf Brewing Co. "Exquisitely Evil Ale"
12 fl. oz. can, coded "04.03.17" and sampled on 07.03.17
$2.29 @ Total Wine & More, Virginia Beach, VA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Aren't almost all wolves wild? The name seems kind of redundant, I mean no one would call their brewery "Domesticated Wolf", would they? And why is it "Exquisitely Evil", that kind of puts wolves in a bad light, doesn't it? Anyway, it's a great looking label, and the beer's not too shabby looking either. I poured it before I started writing and it's still got a solid surface covering to it. It initially delivered a finger-thick head of bone colored froth but that dwindled leaving plenty of tiny spots of lacing behind. The beer itself is mainly clear and orange-ish, and it matches the color of the label. In the nose it's citrusy over a sweetish, bread malt base. There's a little bit of spiciness to it but I can't pick any specific spices out ~ which is probably a good thing! The flavor delivers the citrus as well, and the spice, although I still can't make it out. There's some acidity to it that cuts through the malt, and what I get in a general kind of order is citrus, bready and lightly caramelish malt, acidity cutting through, some apple and berry and peach, a hint more malt, pine, spice, lemon, honey, and then a kind of blend of everything in the finish. It's pretty impressive! I didn't think I'd be able to taste the honey, thinking it'd be fermented out, but it's there. And as far as the spice goes, that's really well done. There's just enough to give it another flavor note, and not so much that it becomes too much in addition to the little bit of spiciness from the alcohol that's there. For all I know, there might be some spiciness from the hops as well. It seems each time I take a sip I find a different note lingering. This time it's peach, but before that it was lemon, then honey, then spice ~ you get the picture. I guess my palate is just working through each of the different notes. Bitterness! Ah, yes, I almost forgot about it. Dry finish. The can lists 95 IBUs but it doesn't seem like that. It's a little hard to tell in double IPAs because there's so much extra malt going on, but it comes off as something like 70 to 75 regardless of what's actually there ~ which is good because it's balanced without being too bitter. It doesn't crush your taste buds and overwhelm them with bitterness like some double IPAs do ~ you get to enjoy three or four sips before all you're getting is bitterness and then you have to rinse your mouth out with water just to get a little bit of tasting perception back... no thanks. So what else? Medium-full in body I'd say, or at least medium with a definite sugary side to it. Moderate, smooth carbonation. I don't know, I really like it. It's something a little different, and it's also really well done. Certainly worth trying.

Pours a dark orange color with about a half finger of white head, dissipates quickly with a little lacing left behind. Smells sweet, some tropical fruits, a little honey. Sweet is the first thing I notice, very sweet and malty, a little pine on the finish. Caramel seems to be the most prominent flavor. A little bitterness throughout and lingering afterwards. Feel is nice, medium body beer that leaves only a little lingering afterwards. It's a little too sweet for my liking, at least too much on the caramel flavor which seems to wash out much of the other flavors. Certainly not a bad beer though.

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a turbid, muddled, pale, orange-copper coloring with a filmy, low profile, clingy, off-white head. Large amount of carbonation in the body. Aromas of tropical fruit and rich honey forward, heavy on pineapple, with a solid toffee and caramel backbone, and a subtle hop aroma providing bitterness and peppery notes. Flavors are bitter forward, heavy on resinous pine pitch, followed immediately by a blast of malty notes, included heavily roasted toffee and caramel. Rich, raw honey notes, with a solid dose of tropical fruit notes, including pineapple, mango, and grapefruit. The fruit characters are very sweet, and the grapefruit in particular borers on astringent. The palate is out of balance. The beer's body is big, bold, and with a dry, crisp edge from all of the carbonation. Muddled, out of balance aftertaste, with notes of honey and caramel being through together with very tart and acidic grapefruit notes. Overly sweet throughout. The finish is tart, sweet, and astringent. This one was not for me, that's for sure.

Poured a golden orange body with two finger head and lace. Aroma contains strong notes of pine and citric hops with minimal malts. Dry, piney, earthy hop taste in a medium body that is kept in check from overpowering beer by a sticky caramel, possible toffee malt sweetness. The malts give the beer a slightly sticky feel at times and give this overly hopped beer a sweet finish. I like this beer and what it's trying to do but wish the hops were toned down a little so that hops and malts meshed more.

Cloudy/hazy/murky whatever ya wanna call it. It looks like heady or focal, with an amazingly soft, and consistent pillowy head. The aroma is fairly muted, but the taste is incredible. Floral hops, citrus pith, orange/tangerine, bready malt, a touch of sugary sweetness. This is an awesome IPA in my books!

Drinking it from a bottle. Had it on draft as well for comparisons sake.

a- Very nice golden color, pours about a finger length of head.
s - Bready, minor citrus, a little sweetness. Not much going on here.
t - malty on the front end, loads of hops on the back end.. Pine pine pine!
m - Feel the burn
o- I like the effort. This is definitely a hop head's delight and i'm glad the honey they used didn't kill the hops completely. Forget about balance, I got smacked in the mouth with hops! The draft version of this I could taste the alcohol but the bottle is smoother for sure.
