Reviewed from notes.
This was on tap at the brewery. This was in a pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a bar pour's kind of slim white head that barely left any lacing.
The smell had a nice roasty blend to bitter coffee, slight espresso, light milk chocolate.
The taste was mainly roasty and carried a nice bitterness from the coffee. Once again, light milk chocolate and then a touch of vanilla.
The mouthfeel was somewhat sharp sweet and roasty with a decent sessionable quality about it.
Overall, you know I like this one, too bad it's retired even if it is named after a whale's penis.

Sidenote: second beer from an Alaskan beer company that named a beer "Oosik." I wonder what tourists think. Fit "rolls eyes" emoticon here.

On draught at the brewpub. Pours flat black with a thin and filmy light brown head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt and coffee. Medium, dry body with flavors of roasted coffee, malt and hops. The finish is roasty with a light coffee and hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

A: Pours a flat black hue. The head had totally died before reaching me. If there was a head the retention was nil.

S: Nice aromas of chocolate malt with a dash of espresso. A bit bitter in the nose.

T: The flavor matched the nose with a dry finish.

M: Medium bodided, pretty smooth. Dry in the finish.

D: So So, not a favorite of mine.
