Blue Top was traditionally brewed to nourish the working class of Skagway and still is brewed to rejuvenate today. Our porter exhibits stout-like characteristics and is near-black in color. Hints of roasty dark chocolate provide a robust flavor and smooth finish.

Pours dark coffee brown with light khaki foamy cap. Heavy bites of coffee with slight toffee. Creamy and slightly sweet with a nice stout like bite.

On draft at SBC. The color on this is all wrong. It is a lighter copper brown body, not even close to cola hued. That threw me off, and while there is a little bit of roast and toasted grain along with a light earth and caramel, but the body is also off, with a lighter wateriness to it, not as much depth that I associate with any type of porter. Basically, the execution is all wrong here and this misses the mark by a fair bit. This would probably be more of a brown ale in classification, I think.

Had on tap. Pours hazy, milk chocolate brown in color with minimal head. Taste is big roasted coffee and light milk chocolate. Roasty, medium bodied, with low carbonation. Drinks like a stout and is very coffee forward...A bit one note. Worth a try if you enjoy coffee, but there are several other porters I prefer.

At the brewpub, this was poured into a pint glass. The appearance had a brown to almost black color with a slim bar pour’s kind of head. The smell had some light caramel malts roasted and a light roasted coffee and chocolate side note. The taste was mainly roasty and somewhat malty. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium, more so closer to the light side. It actually seemed barely carbonated - uh...too smooth to be true? Hmmm....interesting. Overall, okay porter, its nothing special, but could be either borderline construed a brown ale or maybe even a hybrid, still do-able.

A little sweeter than I'd expect for a lighter porter like this, coming from notes of molasses it seems, as roasted malts is very light and it's over all like cola.

On tap pour in a pint glass at the brewery yielded a dark brown colored body.
The smell had a light bready, toasty chocolate thing going on. Slight coffee was in the background.
The taste was smooth and rich through the bready chocolatety thing. Coffee comes in on the aftertaste and leads to a dry finish.
The mouthfeel was long and smooth just gently rolling over my tongue.
Overall, good Porter to come back to.
