From notes.

So far this has only been brewed once, but hopefully Trevor will make it again. I don't know that they ever settled on an official name, but the bartenders tended to refer to it as "the Smoked Barleywine." It has some peaty, smoky wee heavy like characteristics, but neither the brewer nor myself felt it fit that category. I'm putting it the mutt category of American Strong Ale, as Barleywine doesn't really fit either. Whatever the hell it is, if you find yourself at Skagway Brewing, ask if they've got it (or any of the barleywines or other special brews made over the winter that aren't necessarily advertised to the visitors).

Deeper than chestnut, but clear, with some red along the edges in the lingering sun of the lengthening summer evenings. Mild activity, not much head or lacing. But very attractive nonetheless.

Smells smoky and peaty more than sweet and malty, almost fruity and faintly boozy.

Following the nose with peaty and smoky flavors balancing quite well with the prodigious malty base. A hint of chocolate, a bit of booze add complexity, with a bit of mild hop bitterness late. Finishes very clean. Really nice.

Pleasantly moderate carbonation, rich full body, medium viscosity and a clean finish.

Balanced, complex, smooth, and very tasty. Easy drinking, but especially for a beer of this girth. Probably my favorite of all the beers Trevor has made here, though the Wee Heavy back in 08 was pretty good too. And the Healy Hooch Barleywine.

Again, if you find yourself at Skagway Brewing, hiding from the throngs of cruise passengers combing the gift shops, ask if there is anything special on tap but not listed prominently.
