apparently a resurrection of a really old and storied english brand, now being brewed under contract by these guys. if anyone knows more about this than me, id love to get some details. if this beer should be listed under another brewery, let me know too. either way, this is a really good pale ale, perfectly suited to the cask, which they do a pretty good amount of it looks like. its a little lighter and cleaner on the malt side, and quite a bit more late kettle or dry hoppy than is common across the english pale style, maybe just a little more modern, but still with a classic english yeast profile, a little maris otter or some light crystal malt element, and all the classic bittering hops we are all used to in one of these, it just has a few tweaks to stand out from the crowd, and i liked it a lot. there is a soft dry nutty element to the grain, and a light citrus profile to the hops before the bitterness, limey to me, fresh too, and the cask texture is awesome, dried right out, mellow feeling, and with real high drinkability. i like this being a little more aromatic and flavorful in terms of hops, and think its a cool update to a classic style. well done, no matter who is making it...
