A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014, so it's a bit out of date. Acquired a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a cranberry milk stout - quite self-explanatory but I wonder who came up with the idea?
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark ruby-brown hue with good clarity and plentiful carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a persistent surface layer. Nice lacing.
S: Aroma of sweet dark malt with hints of roasted grain, caramel/molasses, subtle dried fruit, lactose, ale yeast and faint stewed leaves. Mildly fruity though cranberries are not obvious. Pretty good.
T: Tastes of dark malt with a sweet character and a bitter finish. Notes of roasted grain, caramel/molasses, a hint of coffee, subtle dried fruit, lactose, ale yeast, faint stewed leaves and a twinge of sourness. Somewhat sweet, followed by a restrained, malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Could be a shade thicker for the style. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter roasted malt, mild lactose, stewed leaves and a lingering fruitiness.
O: A rather nice milk stout - the unusual ingredient combination melds together well. Looks the part, while the aroma and flavour are a satisfying blend of roasted malt, lactose and mild fruitiness. Body is OK; a tad too thin. Can't say the cranberries really reveal themselves but no matter. A pleasant brew that is worth sampling if you have the chance.

The colour is deep brow-red, the liquid is clear. The beige head is two fingers high. It sinks quickly to a tin lid leaving very little lacing.
The smell is fresh and roasted, much drier than expected. Charcoal, coffee and some malt sourness. It is highly balanced.
The taste is sweet-bitter-sour. Some anonymous fruity flavours. Smooth roasted notes, hints of toffee and pomegranate. Medium body. The aftertaste got growing clean sweetness, not much of the thick lactose though. Back coffee and herbal bitter flavours. The finish is somewhat smoked, semi-sweet and a bit dry.
The carbonation is smooth, the many very small bubbles forms a foam in the mouth. The liquid is semi-smooth and a bit light.
A pleasant light black beer, but not the archetypical milk stout. Where are the cranberries?
