quite a refreshing flavour thathas some low level lychee before going into yeasty bitterness
light bodied that lends to easydrinking rather than thin

This bottle is a few months old now.
S: Sweet piney hops.
T: Medium bitterness. Repeats the nose with the hops. A touch dank. Soft toasty notes in the finish and touches of lemon.
O: Not much more to say. Would be lovely on cask.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2014. Acquired a while back from a supermarket. Described on the label as a pale ale with a citrus aroma.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear straw colour with light carbonation. Forms a large head of frothy white foam that lasts for a couple of minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of mild citrus/fruity hops with hints of light, grainy malt and subtle ale yeast.

Tastes of light malt with a crisp finish. Notes of mild white grape, subtle grapefruit, faint citrus, grain, ale yeast and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, followed by a restrained, spicy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with prickly carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body. Aftertaste of mild fruity hops, stewed leaves and yeast.

A decent pale ale, though the hop character could be a shade more forthright. Looks OK, with an aroma and flavour of mild fruity hops and light grain. Body is a tad watery. Goes down nicely enough, and would certainly be refreshing on a hot day. Worth sampling, just don't expect to be blown away.

Actually, I would think of this as a blonde beer rather than an English Pale Ale. A nice, light, refreshing beer. Only 3.5% ,so good for a warmish day, when you don't want something too heavy.

It pours out as a pilsner colour, with a decent, reasonably persistent head. My glass had lacing right to the end. It uses American hops (Cascade and Amarillo) which you taste immediately. For something similar I would prefer some of the Oakham Brewery's beers, like Inferno. But Mary Jane is a perfectly decent pint, if not outstanding.

My first ever visit to ‘The Southampton Arms’ (London) and one of the many cask offerings was this beer: I started the Saturday afternoon session with two hand-pulled pints of it; both poured into an old ‘dimpled pint mug’.

Pale amber/golden body, clear and almost bright: on top a full white foaming head.

Floral hop aroma, citrus hints, apples as well.

The taste had a citrus front, back and middle: it was all about the aforementioned flavours, but they were subtle more than overpowering making the beer refreshing rather than tart or sharp. What malt content there was prevented the beer being too sour, dry or bitter, the malts didn’t show themselves; they were in the background just below the surface.

Pleasant enough, a bit too light in colour and body strength for my taste, but I had two pints just to make sure I got my review correct.

Served in a pint glass.

A: Pale, clear yellow. Head settles at about half a finger. No visible carbonation. Heavy lacing.

S: Wonderful (Amarillo) hops. Floral, aromatic, and somehow comforting in a bar otherwise full of beers with boring smells.

T: Quite nice! Crisp, a little carbonated, hoppy, with a citrus prickling at the end of the taste. The aftertaste is bitter, but not dry.

M: Pleasant, stimulating, and a little bit dry. Nice.

D: Definitely sessionable and enjoyable to drink to boot. Hops are prominent, but not overwhelming. Recommended.
