I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight. It poured a clear dark amber with thin ecru head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had grain and finishing hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with crisp old malt base with grain and bitter finishing hop presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Taster at brewery. Dark brown pour, flat. Sweet, malty aroma, brown bread. Taste follows with malty sweetness, woody noted and a slight medicinal feel.

Poured from a pint can purchased at the brewery into a pint glass. Two fingered off white head with minimal lacing. The body of the beer is rust brown in color, semi opaque. The aroma is definitely malty, with a bit of the smell of pizza dough baking - very conducive to consumption! The first sip has that malt flavor, with a hint of sweetness followed by a bite of hops to cleanse the tongue. It lingers for a moment, just long enough for you to appreciate a very tasty strong ale, which is something almost lost in these days of IPAs.

Poured into a 16 oz pint glass at the brewery in Bennington. Pours reddish brown with very little head or lacing. Sweet and thin with very little hops and malt to balance. Not bad for the style.

Copper colored with a low beige head that settles out quickly. Streams of fat bubbles rise up. Aroma of toffee and caramel, some sweetness. Flavors of toffee and caramel again, a tad smoky, some phenolics, sweetness balanced by a subtle bitterness. Thin and slick mouthfeel, could use a little body. Decent overall.

On tap at the brewpub. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking transparent burnt red color. Carbonation could be seen rising to fill a thin bar pour’s kind of head. Lacing was stringy and spotty. The smell starts off with some cherry to apple - like sweet fruitiness. Light tobacco rounds it out. Dried woodiness here and there. The taste was mainly sweet through the fruits. Tobacco and woody edges lead into the background. Dry sweet fruity aftertaste leads into a quick dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs light. Overall, this was a pretty good English Strong ale that I would have again.

Grabbed a growler from the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a very thin head. Flavor is pretty malt forward with some alcohol notes. Isn't the best British style ale I've had but isn't too bad either. I'm glad I picked it up, especially at $10 for a growler fill.
