A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 13th May 2019 (seems a bit long to me, but anyway). Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.

Appearance: Very dark brown in colour with a two finger brown head that had decent retention while leaving only sparse to no lacing.

Aroma: Roasty malts, chocolate and coffee with a hint of plum and prunes.

Taste: Dark fruit sweetness like plum at the beginning, followed by lots of roasty-ness and dark chocolate bitter sweetness. Finish is definitely more bitter than sweet.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.

Overall: This was enjoyable, especially the bittersweet chocolatey finish.

Got this one at some shop in Belgium.

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Transparent dark brown pour yields a three finger, medium looking, creamy, light tan head with good retention. Clear dark brown body with medium levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a decent wisp and leaves lots of lacing down the glass. Speckled wisp remains and leaves lots of lacing behind.

SMELL: Roasted barley, light cream, some cacao notes and some oats as well. Medium strength.

TASTE: Roasted barley again, some caramel and oats up front. A bit of sweet cream at the swallow with a medium and lingering finish of oats, cacao, roast and cream. A bit of leather in there as well. Nice enough, though could be more forthcoming.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher carbonation for the style. Creamy on the palate, goes down nice and finishes slightly drier on the palate.

OVERALL: This one is decent but nothing overly special. It’s got a bit of leather in the finish that I wasn’t expecting, but the oatmeal works and it’s plenty roasted and creamy. Nice stuff and worth checking out.

A - black, resembles a coffee with a thick brown sugar coloured head. Head retention is great. Leaves a thick coating on the glass.

S - very roasty, some coffee notes, burnt sugar, can definitely smell some oat notes.

T - some coffee and roasty notes, salted caramel, some sweet oat notes finishing with some piney hop which fades to a fudge taste. Fantastic!

M - very smooth indeed, thick body but finishes very dry.
