A 330ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2018. Acquired ages ago from the Brewdog webshop. The label describes this as a tripel brewed with pomegranate and hopped with Amarillo and Tettnanger.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A rich, hazy marmalade-orange hue with plenty of suspended sediment and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a while before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of tart juice with hints of subtle pomegranate, fruity yeast esters, light banana, caramel malt, earthiness, faint leafiness and a twinge of oxidation in the background. No obvious hop character and the booze is well hidden. The fruit is nicely balanced - pretty good.
T: Tastes of sharp fruit juice with notes of mild pomegranate, fruity yeast esters, subtle banana/bubblegum, earthiness, caramel malt, faint leafiness and a touch of oxidation. Mildly tart and quite dry, followed by a yeasty character upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of sharp fruit, yeast esters, earthiness, mild leafiness and subtle malt.
O: Not bad - an unusual take on a tripel but well balanced. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are a pleasant blend of sharp pomegranate, yeast esters, earthiness and caramel malt. Lovely body. Very drinkable for 9.1% - slides down all too easily. Worth sampling.
